How long can I borrow a Library book for?

Almost all Library books have a standard loan period of 8 days. However, as long as another borrower does not request the book you have, it will automatically renew every night for up to ONE YEAR without you needing to do anything.
If the book is not recalled during that year, you will then receive emails asking you to return it to the library. Items must then be returned, even if you want to borrow them again. We do not renew books remotely.
Please see the related FAQs on 'How do I renew my Library books?', 'My Library book has been recalled - do I have to bring it back?' and 'Why hasn't my Library book renewed?' for more information about the automatic renewal process and when it might not apply.
There are some exceptions to the 8 day loan period:
- If you are registered for 'extended loans' status you will have most books for 2 weeks.
- Curriculum Resources are loaned for 6 weeks.
- Library laptops are either 30 days or 6 hours, but cannot be renewed. Please note that if you are registered for 'extended loans', this does not apply to laptops.
Inter-Library Loan books borrowed by us for you from other Libraries:
- Have a fixed return date - if the lending institution allows a renewal, the book must be returned to the Library to request that.
- Some institutions don't allow you to take their books home with you, so some items may be for use in our Library only until their return date.
