My Library book has been recalled - do I have to bring it back?

Yes - if a book has been recalled this means that another user has requested it and you need to bring it back to the Library.

Recalls only happen when every copy of a book is already out on loan so if you get a recall email please don't ignore it.

  • If someone does request any of your books we will send an email to your University Outlook email address (not the mailbox in Canvas).
  • You will have 7 days to return it (14 days for students registered for 'extended loans' status).
  • After that it will incur fines of £1 per day. Fines are only charged on items which have been requested by someone else.
  • If you cannot visit one of the Campus Libraries to return the item in person or give it to someone else to return for you, you can post it. Please contact us for the best address to use. It is not possible for the Library to pay the postage for you.
  • Once you have returned the item, if you would like to borrow it again you can request it yourself and a copy will be recalled for you.
  • If you don't bring the book back, you may find that your library account becomes blocked and you could be charged for a replacement copy.

Please contact the Library if you have any questions.
