What does it mean when my Library item is overdue?
Last Updated: 22.Mar.2023 Views: 64

'Overdue' means that we have asked for your item to be returned to the Library, but you have not given it back by the date we asked for it to be returned by. So it is beyond or 'over' the 'due' date. As a result, you may be accumulating fines on the item.

Books

  • The Library uses an automatic renewal process which means that your books will renew without you having to do anything.
  • If you receive a Return item or Overdue item email it could be for several reasons - please see the 'Why hasn't my Library book renewed?' FAQ for details.
  • If the book has been recalled due to a request from another borrower, the fine is £1 for every day it is past the due date.

Laptops

  • Cannot be renewed and must be returned to the Library you borrowed the machine from by the due date.
  • Administrative fees of up to £40 will be charged if it is not returned.

Inter-Library Loan books from the British Library or other institutions

  • Cannot be renewed automatically and must be returned to the Library you borrowed it from by the due date.
  • The fine is £1 for every day it is past the due date.

How will I know if my item is overdue?

What happens if I don't return the item?

If you do not return the item the Library reserves the right to invoice you for the replacement cost of the item.

If you have any questions, please contact the Library as soon as possible.
