Why can't I login to the LibrarySearch catalogue?

  • If you have clicked the option to 'Sign in', or on the 'Library account' or 'My account' links on our webpages and see the error message: "The login process has failed. Please refer to the library for assistance" it usually means there is a problem with, or you do not have, a Library account.

  • Contact the Library and we will be able to check the status of your Library account.
Please note: Signing in to the Library catalogue is only necessary if you want to use one of the 'request' options or save searches. You DO NOT need to sign in before you search the catalogue, or try to open any 'Available online' items within the search results. Access to electronic resources such as eBooks and online journal articles is controlled by your University IT account, not the Library catalogue itself.

What does signing in to the Library catalogue enable me to do?

  • Make requests. There are two types:
    • Request Library books so you can collect them from the Campus Library of your choice.
    • Request items the Library does not have via our ILL service.
    • If you want to know more about these options please read our linked FAQs.
  • View your Library account online. This shows you:
    • a list of the physical items you have borrowed from the Library and their due date(s). [Please note: you cannot self-renew items]
    • any active requests and their status, e.g. if an item is ready for you to collect. You can also cancel requests that you no longer need.
    • any Library fines or fees you have, plus the link to our online payment portal.
  • Save searches and 'pin' the items that you've found in the catalogue to come back to another time.

Does every current member of the University get a Library account with permission to Sign in to the catalogue?

No, sometimes the Library can only create a "limited" Library account which does not allow users to sign in to the catalogue.

  • SCONUL band A, B and C students and Alumni card holders - you can borrow a small number of books, but cannot Sign in to the catalogue to check the due dates or use the Request options.
  • Members of Staff who are not on the Agresso system e.g. VLs and TNE Staff - you will usually not be permitted to borrow print books or Sign in to the catalogue to use the Request options. You may have an external University IT account with access to Canvas and viewing/editing access to Leganto lists for the courses you are teaching on, and a University email address but that's usually all. Please contact us asap if you have a query so we can check what status you have. The 'my access to online journal articles is restricted' FAQ explains more.

I've been able to login to the catalogue before, but now I can't?

If you are no longer a current student or member of staff your account will expire:

  • Students on an official break in studies via e:Vision - you will lose access to your Library account because you are technically no longer a current student. If you have any queries about this please contact ASK@wlv.
  • Staff leavers - once your employment ends, your Library account will expire.
  • Staff who have changed employment contracts - your Library account is controlled by your employment details in Agresso. If you expect to have a Library account / permission to borrow books and place ILL requests, please contact HR asap. It is not possible for the Library to manually create accounts.

I'm a new student, when will my Library account be created?

  • Your account will be created the day after you complete your enrolment onto your course. This means that if you completed your enrolment today, you will have a Library account tomorrow - the systems will update overnight. This is an automatic process that the Library isn't able to change.
  • If you haven't enrolled yet, please check on e:Vision for the link to enable you to do so. This web page explains more
  • If you believe you completed your enrolment more than 1 day ago but can't sign in to the Library catalogue or view your Reading List in Canvas it means there is something incomplete in e:Vision. Please contact ASK@wlv for advice.
