How do I find eBooks?

Your module Reading List in Canvas is likely to contain recommended book titles. IF they are available in an eBook format there will be a 'View online' link to click which will take you to the book without needing to search anywhere - so it is always a good idea to check your list first.

But if you want to look for ANY book that the Library has online access to, the best way is to use the LibrarySearch catalogue. You can search for a specific title OR by keyword / topic.

It is important to know that not all publishers make their titles available in an electronic format. The Library will always try to source online versions where possible but sometimes we can only buy a print copy. If the book you want is not available online via our collection, there is nothing we can do to provide alternative eBook access.

  • To search the catalogue, enter your book title or topic into the search bar.
  • Click on the drop-down menu and change it from ‘search everything’ to ‘eBooks’ and then press the search button or the enter key on your keyboard.
  • You will be shown some results that match the words you typed.
  • Click on the 'Available Online' link to open the site where the eBook is stored, or click on the title link to see more information.

If you have already done a search for a book you can still choose to only see online versions (if there are any):

  • Look on the left-hand side underneath the Refine your results options

  • Under Availability choose Available online

AND

  • Under Resource Type choose Books

If either of those lists of options are hidden, click on the down arrow to the right of the heading to expand the list
