What will the Ebsco interface changes mean for me? Last Updated: 14.Aug.2025 Views: 109
Why is EBSCO changing the EBSCOhost user experience and interface?
Ebsco have redesigned the user interface “to meet ever-evolving user expectations for accessing, searching, choosing and using the library’s resources”. Their new interface provides a simplified cleaner look and includes some updated features.
We recognise that many University of Wolverhampton users would have been happy with the existing interface, however Ebsco are rolling out the upgraded version to all academic institutions.
When will the interface change?
The interface changed on 5th August 2025.
Which databases will have the new interface?
All our Ebsco databases will have the new user interface; APA PsycInfo, Art & Architecture Source, Business Source Complete, CINAHL Ultimate, eBook Collection (EBSCOhost), Education Research Complete, GreenFILE, Humanities Source, MEDLINE with Full Text, MLA International Bibliography, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, SocINDEX with Full Text and SPORTDiscus with Full Text
I have an Ebsco personal user account - will this affect me?
Yes - if you have previously set up a personal account to save search items and set up alerts, you will need to merge this account on the new interface. This link from Ebsco explains what to do - How to Merge Personal User Accounts
Please note - the Ebsco FAQ says to: "Click the 'Update My Account' link in the top toolbar" to start the process, but this is incorrect as there is no top toolbar in our version of the database. Instead click onto the 'MyEBSCO' link to the top right of the screen and then on 'Manage your account' to locate the 'Get started' link as shown in the first of the images in the FAQ.
Things to bear in mind
Not all information will migrate over. We strongly recommend you export your existing data as a back up (before 31st December 2025), this Ebsco help article explains how: How can I download the data....
What will the merge bring over?
- Saved searches
- Articles in 'My Folder'
What won't the merge bring over?
- Custom folders
- Search alerts - these will need to be recreated in the new interface (see the links below)
- Journal alerts - these will need to be recreated in the new interface (see the links below)
- Persistent links to searches (this was a different area to the 'Saved searches' one)
Is there any help available in using the new interface?
Yes absolutely - have a look at the links to the Ebsco help pages below.
