Does the Library have audiobooks?

No, the Library does not have audiobooks in our collections.

This is because academic text books are generally not sold in an "audio" format by their publishers. Even book sites such as Audible only sell access to fiction, general interest non-fiction books and podcasts rather than actual textbooks.

If you prefer to learn by listening there are a couple of options to consider:

  1. some of our eBook platforms or their Apps have a 'read aloud' or 'voice over' function - please check the options on the specific eBook you are reading.
  2. windows PCs, popular internet browsers and text software have their own options for 'read aloud'. Please see our linked FAQ for more details: 'Are there any read aloud/screen-reading options I can use?'
  3. if you need a solution that is not specific to just one App or internet browser, screen reading software can be downloaded for free on personal devices.
  4. if you buy books yourself it can be worth looking at options like Amazon Kindle which may have a text-to-speech function available.

Please contact the Library if you have any questions, but note we cannot recommend specific software and anything you choose to download is at your own risk.

If you require books in alternative formats please contact ASK@wlv to instigate a referral to the appropriate team.
