What Study Skills help can I get from the Library?

The Skills for Learning team can help in a variety of ways:

  • Drop-ins are available at Harrison Library at City Campus, Walsall Library and Hutchison Library at Telford Campus for 1-2-1 support.
    • Please see the schedule on our website for the days and times available at each Campus.
    • There's no need to book.
    • Please note that the Skills for Learning team cannot proofread work or offer subject-specific advice. Our Support Guidelines document explains more.

  • Our study guides give a brief introduction to a number of study skills topics, including assignment planning, finding information, proof reading and effective reading.
  • There is a dedicated webpage covering Referencing which includes helpful advice and explanatory videos.
  • Workshops take place regularly online. You can browse forthcoming sessions and book your place via our webpage. Joining instructions will be sent to you shortly before the advertised start time. Even if you cannot make the scheduled times, booking a place will give you access to a recording of the session to watch at a time convenient to you. We recommend you attend any relevant workshops before contacting us for a 1-2-1 appointment. Please see linked FAQ below for more details of how to join the session.
  • If you would like to make an appointment for support please use our online form and a member of the team will be in touch. Appointments can be held in Canvas, via Teams or on campus (depending on staff availability).

  • If you are a distance learning student, you may find the information on our 'Not on Campus? - Students based off campus' page helpful.

  • Finally, we also have Study Skills Books available both in the library and online. You can access these resources using the LibrarySearch catalogue.
